Initially, the LAN is to provide data communications for computing facilities located in three to four buildings, but expansion throughout the campus is anticipated, and additional applications, such as voice, video, environmental control, and building security may be of interest. Evaluate vendor offerings. Oversee the acquisition and installation of the network. Document network functions. Monitor network performance; oversee fault detection and correction. Interface with University committees and department heads to determine networking needs. Supervise technical personnel engaged in network maintenance and enhancements. QUALIFICATIONS: A Baccalaureate degree, preferably in a technical area such as Electrical Engineering, is required. A minimum of four years of experience working with complex computing or data communications systems in a technical capacity; at least two years of this experience must have involved the design, installation, or maintenance of a data network. Some evidence of managerial and interpersonal communication skills is required. THE COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT: The Local Area Network Group will be part of the Computing Center at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. The Center runs Honeywell 68/80's with the Multics operating system and Pyramid 90x's with the UNIX operating system; the Pyramid systems are linked via Ethernet. The Computer Science Department and the Mechanical Engineering Department have acquired VAX's running VMS and UNIX. Many departments have acquired microcomputers, of which IBM-PC compatibles are the commonest. SALARY: Negotiable, depending upon qualifications and experience; 12 month appointment.
