I am trying to install a large FORTRAN image as /open/shared/writeable. The image is essentially a shared common block that several concurrent processes need access to. We have 4 MB of memory. When I try to install the image /open/shared/writeable, the system TOTALLY hangs. I mean, no one can even CONTROL_Y, the operator's console becomes locked, although both processors front panel shows them running. I am forced to crash the system with the console keys, and reboot. One interesting thing is that the image has a size of about 32000 blocks(!). If I cut the arrays down to yield an image with a size of 16000 blocks, the install works correctly. I have called DEC software support, and they are perplexed. They claim they will send a consultant to our site to help us, but that was 3 weeks ago, and I'm still getting hammered by management to get this simulation running. Does anyone have any advice concerning which system parameters I should play around with? Thank you all in advance, Patrick J. O'Neill
