you might find interesting:

Computer networks: a tutorial.  M. Abrams, R.P. Blanc & I.W. Cotton
(eds.). IEEE publication EH0162.

	A nice collection of papers -- some by key figures
	in the field.  Some of the older papers of more historical
	than practical importance, though.

Distributed telecommunications networks via satellites and packet
switching.  R.D. Rosner.  Lifetime Learning Publications, 1982.

	Lightweight introduction with a minimum of math.  Painless
	introduction to the jargon.  Despite title, discusses LANs in
	a non-technical way.

Design and analysis of computer communication networks.  V. Ahuja.
McGraw-Hill, 1982.

	Relatively brief introductory overview of technical aspects
	of computer networks.

Computer Networks. A.S. Tanenbaum.  Prentice-Hall, 1981.

	More complete technically-oriented presentation.  Often used
	as an undergraduate textbook in the subject.
