No, this is not about VMS vs. UNIX or customer service or how to tell which of your tires is flat. It's about a printer: the LA100. I allowed you to get away with calling it "letter-quality." We all know that dot-matrix printers rarely if ever qualify, but overlooking that -- the ribbon SMUDGES THE HECK out of the paper as the print head moves! (Everyone who has an LA100 knows this and no one including the local DEC service guy has a fix! DEC personnel, or anyone for that matter, are welcome to try to prove this statement wrong.) But that's not what really gets me. You know what really gets me??? The digit "1" (one) is indistinguishable from the letter "l" (lower case ell). I don't mean close, I mean an identical dot pattern!
