Your best bet, if you have an auto-dial modem on your system, would be to have your system do the call-forwarding. If you don't want to bother hooking up a light to an output port (which is still easier than detecting the touchtone digits), then you could have your computer display some message in the status-line (if it has one). Another possibility is to have the computer do the call-forward setup and removal at programmed times, ie first thing on power-up, and at 5:30 or whenever. If all else fails, hang a big sign over your telephone: "CALL FORWARDING IN EFFECT!!".
