What about the idea of net.music.poll? Every few months someone innocently (I presume) posts "What is the best/worst/favorite song/group/guitarist...?" not knowing that the same question has been asked half a dozen times already, and always the group becomes flooded with drivel. This won't necessarily stop all the drivel (witness the responses to M. Dunn's request to be MAILED long/varied/whatever pieces (I did, did you? If not, fie.)) but it should divert a fair amount of it. Maybe the group should be top level so that the perennial "worst sf movie of all time" discussion could go there too.
