WOW! I've just heard about the Yamaha 816. It's a module that can
carry up to eight, yes EIGHT DX-7's all rolled together. Sans keyboard,
of course. So do any stores have them yet? Has anybody played with
them yet? Huh? Huh? I currently have an assortment of MIDI instruments.
I record timecode on one track of a four-track so all my digital
sounds are first generation on mixdown. A 68000 manages a Roland
MPU-401 to talk to all the instruments. It's pretty neat, but I need
more voices, MORE VOICES!!! This 816 might be the answer. More as
I find out.

One other thing, anyone interested in sending their riffs around in
midi->hex format? Anyone interested in working on a midi superset
standard that uses a system exclusive escape to send more faff?
Anyone interested in exchanging sampled sounds or patches?

More Yamaha 816 poop from my dealer. It -was- at the NAMM show. It
comes with two (yow) DX-7 modules and is expandable to seven (hmmmmm).
Costs about 2K. A real monster to program (all FM synths are). Should
have a data sheet soon. So with this awesome set of parametric FM
oscillators, who is going to be the first on their block to sample
a sound into their home-brew wavestores, and then back map it into
the FM parameters? Ideas?
