In response to the inquiry about solar sailing, you might want to check out
the short story "The Fourth Profession" by Larry Niven (I'm not at home, so
I may have the title wrong - corrections?)  Its about aliens called the
Monks who decelerate into the solar system using a light-sail-equipped
ship.
