Let us change the word "stupid" to "naive": someone who has not been raised to take responsibility for her life, but has been fed a treacle-diet of Cinderella waiting for the prince with the glass slipper to rescue her from a career of kitchen drudgery, of Snow White preserved in a glass case and Sleeping Beauty sleeping in an enchanted castle waiting for their respective princes to awaken them; life is death until a man arrives to take control of your life. How many stories are there for little girls to grow up on, that show that cleverness is the way to succeed? Little girls get stories about little girls who grow up to be beautiful and passive and virtuous (hmm, well we won't think about the origins of that word); if they want to hear and read tales of cleverness they have to read about little boys, FOR THE MOST PART. It is a tragic error to make, but when you've been told your whole life that to be fulfilled you have to absolve responsibility...can we really condemn anyone who's been raised so? No, we just have to work to teach them better, and to keep others from being so damaged.
