I thank you all for your tremendous response. The paper that I finally ended up writing ended up being 40 pages long. I've summarized the paper into a series of postings that will follow. The postings are divided into five sections: this one, the introduction, the description of the results, a description of how correlations work, and the analysis of the results. The introduction, the description of the results, and the analysis of the results are taken from the paper. Some elements of the paper (such as the description of the USENET, etc.) were omitted. The description of how correlations work was thrown together by me so that those who didn't understand how correlations and significance levels work would have a good chance of understanding the analysis. It is strongly recommended that you read it before the analysis is you feel unsure about your ability in this area. Although I had a fairly large appendix giving comments by the respondents on the various questions, I felt that it would have taken far too much trouble to get clearance from everyone to post those comments. Thus, I've left them out. Sorry if some of you are disappointed in this. Lastly, I wish to apologize for not presenting the results in a manner that reads more like a normal net.singles posting than a paper. I hope that it doesn't deter anyone from reading it. Again, thanks for the responses. I hope that you find it informative!
