That, however, isn't the case. I know enough women who would prefer to be called a) ladies b) girls or c) guys to know that there is no consensus here. I also know men who use the diminuative form of their names all the time -- they find the longer forms too formal and stodgy. On the other hand, most women I know do not mind the diminuative form of their name -- but I hate them all, for men or women -- I keep feeling like I am up to my ears in sticky treacle.
