I lived in Bavaria for 18 months as a child, so we will be going to see that area and, because they're so close by (about a two hour drive from Augsburg, my childhood home), we will be going through the Alps toward Zurich through the Innsbruck area. I have heard a little about a series of guest huts that are maintained by retired couples in the Austrian Zillertal area of the Alps (just south and west of Innsbruck). Apparently, they are placed within a comfortable day's hike (not climb, I am told--but an easy HIKE) of one another, and offer genuine Austrian cuisine and hospitality at a very reasonable rate, including, if you wish, a private room with feather beds, and more. Sounds very nice, and certainly off the beaten path, so to speak (hopefully). I would be most interested to hear from anyone else who might have any additional information on these huts. After our trip, I will be happy to post my experiences if there's any indicated interest same. Don't worry-- they'll be brief!
