The other systems couldn't accomodate the NTSC solution, so Sony, wanting to provide some sort of hi-fi in the other markets, resorted to the alternate method. I would think that this shows Sony believes the method used in its NTSC recorders to be superior, rather than the other way around. Also, it has been noted that Sony's new SuperBeta recording method is NTSC-only - there does not seem to be a way to adapt the technology to PAL or SECAM systems.
