I have lived with one for ...hmmm 5 years (?) or so now. I wasn't completely sold at first, but as I have used others and read about more, my opinion of it improves. It's like a good speaker* after a while it doesn't seem so fantastic anymore, just everything else sounds awful. I'm beginning to notice the same thing with CD's too, damn it, but back to the matter at hand (or finger). The display of the C-101 beats any other I have seen by a mile. Let's say that an led display beats these fluorescent or whatever displays. The time constants of the display are well chosen for a very fun to watch display. Even useful and educational and good for trouble shooting. The equalizer (10 bands) seems pretty log-linear. Again, the human factors of having the two channels of each band adjacent is a winner. The other controls are swell in their action. Only sizeable screwup is the sort-of black-on-black labeling which requires illumination to read. The EQ itself is very quiet (I haven't measured it (I'll bet Mitchell has)) and it certainly is magic how a dismal rcording can be transformed by just a touch of correction in one or two bands. My unit used to oscillate in one channel of the 16khz band intermittently, but I haven't noticed it lately and was never moved to send it back to the rain forest to be fixed. The manual was cutsey-poo, but they should have been able to improve it in 5 years. Try a good mail order house for price. Though higher than most of its competition, its not by much and worth it. The dis play by itself is worth it. Go watch one some place. Mike and pink noise generator were useful, too. Good luck! -- "It's the thought, if any, that counts!" Dick Grantges hound!rfg
