Anybody driven one, or have any light to shed on the > subject? > > Dan Masi > AT&T Bell Laboratories Comments on the Toyota MR-2: NEGATIVE: Not nearly as good looking as a Fiero. Not a car for people who are 6'4". Not much room for luggage, and the center console is a joke. Midship engine is hard to work on. Tires are not optimal -- comes in dead last in all the slalom tests that I've read, especially when pitted against a Honda CRX-Si. The dealers gouge too much for these cars ($4000 over list is what one So. Cal. dealer is getting, and the next 3 months shipments are sold and paid for!) POSITVE: Sportier than a comparable Fiero, and better assembled. Ergonomically designed interior is comfortable up to 6'. (Perfect for 5'4") Things which need to be serviced most often are easiest to access. Toyota's reputation for reliability is a big plus. FUN TO DRIVE!!! (Love that 7500 RPM redline and 150 mph speedometer!) Easy to maneuver, tight turning circle (31.5 feet) Decent gas mileage, @26 mpg/city. OVERALL: I LOVE IT! I purchased one in February and have put on 1000 miles on it, and have had no problems. No one knew what an MR2 was back then, so I got a very good deal on mine. Most of the options, especially the sunroof, are desirable. The spoiler is not. COMMENT: Road & Track's Guide to the Toyota MR2 should be available at your local dealerships parts department. Good reading if you are interested in an MR2. Also, R&T Guide to Sports and GT Cars 1985, Nov '84 R&T, Feb '85 C&D, Feb '85 MT, and Mar '85 MT all have articles on the MR2. -- Cindy Paloma UCSD Academic Computing Center, C-010 La Jolla, CA 92093 [...]!sdcsvax!sdcc3!paloma paloma@ucsd.arpa
