There may be some spoilers, so if you haven't read COIE #4 and don't want it spoiled for you, pass on by. Well, this is the big one. Wolfman did it. Everything's gone --- Earth-X, Earth-S, Earth-1, Earth-2, the whole she-bang. Comments: (1) Due to Gorge Perez's magnificent art, this is the first time I can recall that Kara hasn't looked utterly stupid in her newest costume. Plus, the characterization of both Supergirl and Batgirl were really nice. Wolfman gave them the same sense of close friendship as Superman/Batman and Power Girl/Huntress have had. Anotehr first, as far as I know. (2) Rats! When I got to the end of page 3 and caught the mention of "John Constantine", I thought that I was very cleverly noticing an obscure reference to the impending storyline in SWAMP THING (it helped that I read the latest ST just before this). I wondered how many people would catch this. Then, at the top of the next page, Swamp Thing is mentioned for all to notice. I wonder if what is being expected in SWAMP THING is a manifestation of what's happening in CRISIS (is "he" Pariah? The Monitor? The Adversary that's behind the Crisis?). (3) Earth-6, eh? I wonder if Wolfman came up with this Earth and its heroes only to wipe it out. Will Lord Volt or Lady Quark be around after the Crisis is over? Of course, it just occurred to me that maybe some of the characters from Earth-3 *aren't* gone forever! (4) The new Dr. Light appears. Not too shabby. Will she end up being a hero? A villain? I don't suppose it really matters. Anything is bound to be an improvement over the old Dr. Light. (5) The shot of Superman floating in the sky on page 16 really strikes my fancy. (6) Last but not least, a speculation. It didn't occur to me until I saw one of the letters in the lettercol, but could there be more significance than one might at first think to the fact that the "origin" of the Luthor child from Earth-3 parallels that of Superman? Nah, can't be. Wolfman couldn't. Wolfman wouldn't. Could DC *really* have the guts to make *that* much of change in Superman? Aaaaarrrrggghhhhhh!!!!! The suspense is going to kill me! --- jayembee (Jerry Boyajian, DEC, Maynard, MA) UUCP: {decvax|ihnp4|allegra|ucbvax|...}!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-akov68!boyajian ARPA: boyajian%akov68.DEC@DECWRL.ARPA
