a few days after that, CBC Toronto had someone on who picked a random
selection of popular music and played them all backwards, excerpting
pieces he thought were interesting.  he then did the same thing for
recorded speeches of some famous people.  he played them backwards to the
reporter and asked him if he heard any messages on the tapes.  the
reported didn't, and neither did i.  the person being interviewed then
offered various interpretations of the sounds and played them back again.
with the suggestions, one could interpolate and come up with the messages
that were proposed.  the person who did this was a psychologist who
said that all this was coincidence and nonsense on the part of the
people looking for ``deeper meaning'' in the records.  there ARE a few
with hidden messages backwards, but they are deliberately recorded
backwards (an ELO album has this) and are distinctly recognizable
words, while most of the stuff being interpreted is muffled and vague,
to say the least.
