If you really want a knee-slapper, how bout making a similar
comment about the president of the usofa while in the hearing
of a cop....or a comment about blowing up airplanes while you're
in an airport.

Some comments are just not funny in any public context.

As for a double standard, read Lief's comments about Arndt. 
It's nice to be proud of those who are on your side.
