I have, on occasion, worn a tie to work, and found that I always receive a number of "You look so nice" comments, even if the women making the comments have seen the same exact outfit without the tie before. My question is, does anyone have any idea why that is? Seems to me that anything so uncomfortable should be shunned (although discomfort has not stopped women from wearing girdles, high-heeled shoes, etc. [or men from admiring women in them]). Still, ties sometimes seem to make the difference between looking OK and "looking so nice." What sadist invented ties in the first place? And, more important, why are they so popular?
