I do, however, watch TV. Why? Well, it keeps me company when I'm reading the paper or various non-technical magazines. If I'm watching the news, I may not bother to get up and turn off the TV and turn on the radio. Sometimes I like silence in my apartment, but the TV or radio is on most of the time (tapes sometimes, but they have to be turned over). Sometimes I watch nature shows on PBS. They're fun, and I generally learn something. I watch sports (NCAA basketball, NFL and NCAA football). And I watch some of the more interesting movies and series (Cosby show, Hill Street Blues,...). But I rarely just sit and watch TV. I'm usually doing something else that is relaxing or needs to be done (bills, fiddling with the plants, counted cross-stitch). So watching TV is not necessarily a time sink. I do it concurrently with something else. I don't go out to a lot of movies or dinners. My SO is about 500 miles away, and he watches TV pretty much the way I do. Maybe we're antisocial at times, but I find it relaxing. And I bet we're not alone in this approach to watching TV. We also watch the commericials as entertainment rather than as ads. David never seems to remember the product. Beth Katz {seismo,allegra}!umcp-cs!beth
