Mine was that I knew nothing about how to post an article, so that when I finally tried, I erroneously posted my carpool article to net.general. To every personal remark I have received since ( and believe me, THEY GET PERSONAL!), I have sent a personal response explaining and apologizing for my error. In your case, however, I will take the time to make an exception, because you have taken the liberty of using the phrase, "New Jersey stereotype". This note, then, gets posted in net.flame. You asked why you have been seeing "so many articles in net.general from people in NJ advertising things that nobody outside a five mile radius gives a flying @%$# about. The reason you saw a COUPLE of misplaced articles in net.general is because I put them there, and I did so before I knew how to remove them, and not because I felt the newsgroup appropriate. I got flamed with some very hot and personal remarks for weeks after that, and at this point I have developed a second skin about such things, but your remark about stereotypes is incredibly stupid. The majority of New Jersey residents are people who have moved to their state to be able to work and commute, not because they wish to be associated with the NJ Turnpike, the air around Elizabeth, the Generals, or any other of the kind of things people like to make fun of. New Jersey has some beautiful beaches, lovely rivers, a georgeous section of the Appalachian Trail, and the Meadowlands arena ain't bad, either. I admit, I've seen states where the view was always spectacular, and the snowcapped mountains in the distance bring on a euphoria that can't be beat, but since you can't eat the beauty of nature, NJ is a surprisingly nice compromise. The northwestern area of the state is mostly unsettled hillsides, and the southern shore areas are just like the beaches of the Carolinas. Watch out when you begin to hint of generalizing.
