What a LAME definition of the word.  The American Heritage does a much
better job:

initialize -ized, izing, izes.  Computer Sci.  To set to a starting position
or value. -- initialization n. -- initializer n.

Websters insertion of '(as a computer program counter)' probably completely
loses most of the people out there who are not into computer programming.
Further reinforces my feeling that Websters tends to be a bit warped.  (that
and the recent suggestion to compare 'scientism').
