The procedure is as follows: 1) Crank/Obscene Call Occurs 2) Phone is Hung-up 3) Then a Series of digits are pressed on phone depending on whether line is tone or pulse 4) Automatically the number that was called from (caller) is sent to the police department along with your phone number of course 5) On next bill from Southwestern Bell Telephone, a charge of $5 for use of this feature is included One note, at this time only a handful of exchanges are included. A call from an exchange not included cannot be traced so the police will not get the caller's number but you will still get charged for trying. This feature is called Automatic Trace [I believe] and is part of a package of new services Southwestern Bell is providing. You do not sign up for the services like Call-Waiting, as they are present and you get charged when you use it.
