First we have Michael Jenkin University of Toronto >>Yes but if you received a car without a hubcap you'd probably go >>back to the distributor to get a new one, rather than asking people >>on the street if you can borrow theirs. Then, in article <1448@ukma.UUCP> sean@ukma.UUCP (Sean Casey) writes: >You don't seem to be getting my point... in this country you are >innocent until proven guilty. > >I have had to deal with software companies before, ... I would find it >much easier... to copy (a manual) from a friend than to correspond with >the software company. While I absolutely agree with Sean (& current American jurisprudence) that a person accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty, I am also aware that an "it's not MY problem" attitude is necessary for behavior like software piracy to continue. How often do you think people would continue to pass around stolen (that's what it is, you know) software if they knew that the community (that's us, folks) would take action against them were such behavior discovered. Perhaps Mike made an imprudent conclusion, but I would ask the original poster to follow up with the original serial number of his copy of the program before I sent him a copy of the book. And I ask that anyone else out there who is considering sending him a copy do the same. And I would check that the serial number has the same format as my own. ... -- Blessed Be, Jeff Hull {decvax,hplabs,ihnp4,scdrdcf,ucbvax} 13817 Yukon Ave. trwrb!trwspp!spp2!jhull Hawthorne, CA 90250
