Check out this month's Micro/System Journal, p74.  The article is "Building
an IBM-PC or XT Clone".  The author covers the topic pretty well including
price breakdowns, PC compatible vendors and also, what to do about IBM's
copyrighted BASIC ROM.

The editor of M/SJ actually put together his own PC clone following the
instructions in the article.  It works!
