  It was "Silent Running".  I saw it too, and was impressed with it.  My
  guess is that it was a bit too "cerebral", and a bit "slow" - reasons
  why it wasn't more popular.  Excellent special effects.  It was also
  interesting to see Bruce Dern play something other than a scruffy
  cowboy!
