The story is told from the viewpoint of Merlin, Corwin's son who was introduced at the end of _C_o_u_r_t_s _o_f _C_h_a_o_s. SEMI-SPOILER: Corwin is not involved in the book, and is barely mentioned. The action takes place primarily on Earth, where Merlin is some kind of a Computer Systems Designer, and in Amber, where Random is ruling without open opposition.
