    1.  SOUNDEX coding has nothing to do with driver's licence number.  It
	is a means of encoding the pronunciation of a word as a letter and
	three digits, for quick matching.  See Knuth, ``Searching and 
	Sorting''.  It's a useful trick that predates computers; the 
	Census Bureau has used it for decades.
