I stayed at the village of Kavos at the southern end of >Corfu. This was a non-touristy (i.e. no Holiday Inns) tourist village that >catered mostly to visitors from the UK. It was wonderful. What time of the year were you there? I am Greek, I lived in Greece most of my life, but I would be at a loss to suggest a vacation place in Greece that has not been spoiled by the millions of tourists that visit Greece every summer. There are actually quite a few places that do not get a lot of tourists for some reason, (no sandy beaches, or not a lot of drinking water, or something), but they are not easy to find, and they can get spoiled fast. Corfu is one of the most thoroughly developed islands. You will find most places much friendlier off-season. (Late September qualifies as off-season, but it may rain). Or, it is entirely possible to have a great time IN a tourist trap, if you are not sensitive to that sort of thing. (Notice Kavos' description above as "a non-touristy TOURIST village"). There are different degrees of exploitation (and sensitivity to it), and if you are a foreigner you may not notice anything, but if you are looking for an unspoiled paradise do not look at The Greek Islands, not during the summer. The closest I would suggest is Crete, it is large enough that some areas are bound to be remote. Or the mainland. VERY Sorry to Have To Warn Someone Against Visiting Greece, Alexis Dimitriadis. -- _______________________________________________ alexis @ reed ...ihnp4!{harvard|tektronix}!reed ...decvax!tektronix!reed ...teneron!reed
