"To raise/rear." This appears to be a combination of 1. above and the opportunity to impress a child's mind with your ideas. My bug line expresses my opinion exactly. Ideas are nothing but the shadows cast by words. 3. "To love." This is highly speculative--what if you come to hate the child instead of loving it? You'll be worse off than before. But if you're willing to live with somebody on the mere chance of coming to love him ... see 4. below. 4. Take a wife!
