In the issue of Scotty's nephew, When STII came out in the theatres there was a lot of stuff on net about how in the book of STWOK mentioned that Preston was Scotty's nephew and it was not in the movie. The TV version had that -- remember. Prior to watching STII on the network I rented STIII so I got a double dose of ST, (it was great) and I saw STII 5 or 6 times. There were a lot of different scenes on TV. I do not know if there were different theatre versions (I doubt it). I think they just wanted to make it different and interesting. It may be a way of getting people to see it again - perhaps a summer rerun of the TV version- who knows. -- "Your a legend in your own Mind." John T. Blumenstein ihlpg!eagle
