I presume we are talking about high speed on legal roads, and not strip speeds. In 1978 I owned, and still do, a 1968 (** Chevrolet. **) Firebird. My uncles own a garage and race cars (quarter mile). I wanted to build one. So, we started. first, we riped out the pontiac engine. I replaced this with a 327 Chevrolet. small block (bored out). Then I installed High compression heads, pop up pistions, hydralic lifters, small high riser with a Holly 780 double pumper, and a 360 full race cam. We also did assorted other upgrades but, that is too much to talk about( I don't want to give all the secrets). Well on nite (late) I was starting a long drive that I was not in the mood for. So while I was doing 70mph on IH35 leaving San Antonio, I noticed that I was approaching Selma ( the ass hole of Texas). The question now was to speed up or slow down. I sped up. My speedometer registers 165 before it buries the needle. I do not know how fast I was going, just that it was over 165. I do not know which to classify this under pont. or Chevrolet.? I will let you figure it out. david@ut-sally ps: 55 sucks! pss: Get out of my way or we'll both die!
