It sounds like you have a problem similar to the one I had in my '81
Honda Civic. The shifter bushing is located right above either the
exhaust pipe or the catalytic converter. The hotter this area gets, the
harder it is to shift. Have your mechanic check this first. If it is
the same problem, your talking about a $30 repair versus a major transmission
repair. Good Luck.
