In my proposal, I noted that the average seat cost in a Boeing 727 from Chicago to Newark was $44.75 not including any non-aircraft expense. I figured about 643 nautical miles (739 statute), and 1 hour 40 minutes enroute. > Peoples and Piedmont have a price war on Newark to Greensboro. > The fare is $29. Using these figures, derived from Aviation Week data, October 15, 1984, these two airlines are losing their shirts on the fare. (The following is an editorial comment:) I am sorry to see Piedmont having to fight Peoples in a fare war. Piedmont has always struck me as being a professional type of carrier, while Peoples is somewhat rag-tag. (Really, what professional crew would miss missing flaps on a 727 pre-flight?) I also am quite miffed at Peoples attitudes about general aviation. jeff williams AT&T Bell Laboratories ihnp4!cfiaime
