People's is a cut rate airline but as proffessional as most. As for forgetting flaps in a checklist........let's see Continental landed on a taxiway once instead of runway. American has landed on a wrong runway. Eastern has had .............. and the list goes on. The airlines engaged in price war are trying to capture a market to monopolize it later..... ala old ma bell. Also ala ma bell they won't loose their shirts on it they subsidise low fare roots by charging huge fare on less popular routes where they can get away with it ...cross subsidising. For cost calc need to know 727 model ie engine size and how many passengers it carries. 45% cost is fuel so figure fuel use in following way: .6 * max thrust * .25 = pounds fuel per hou per engine. (.6 is specific fuel consumption .25 for fraction of max thrust used at cruise at 30000 feet. ) Then divide by 6 to get gallons. Airlines pay a little less than $1 per gallon for fuel. So there you have it.
