When I camed out here t' Orygun, I thought it wuz kinda strange that folks called 'em "pops" and "sodas". Alcoholic beverages are called "likker", "beers", and "Thunderbird". Here's another question: How do you pronounce "Appalachian", as in the mountain range of the same name? My parents are from the Appalachian mountains, and they and their relatives and friends pronounce it with the second 'a' short (as in "cat"). I used to see TV commercials about the poor people in Appalachia (pronounced with the second 'a' long, as in "hate"), and I could never figure out where that was. David tektronix!tekecs!dce
