I used to work at a Burger King and the reason given to us for stressing this
point is that you can be sued for selling someone a PEPSI when the ask for a
COKE because COKE is a trademark of the COCA-COLA company, and not a generic
name, even though it is used as such.  We were even told (I have no idea if
this is true or not), that COKE sent people around to places that sold PEPSI
and would ask for COKE, and then raise hell if you gave them a PEPSI without
informing them that it was not COKE.
