I have a friend who makes it a hobby to 'crash' parties, receptions,
balls, etc especially where there may be VIP's and dignitaries. 

A few times, he was 'caught' and they threatened to turn him over to 
the police.

All of which gets me curious. Is it a serious crime to do something
like this or will the judge merely laugh at it and let you go?? (I live
in the state of Washington and this friend lives in Rhode Island)
