Through bits and pieces of past postings I think I know how to do this, but I seem to be missing one vital piece of information. To summarize the process so far I have: 1) Downloaded the shell script for XBIN to our VAX 2) Ran the above script and compiled the resultant source - this resulted in a perfectly good copy of XBIN which has yet to fail to convert (un-compress) any file I have tried on it. 3) Downloaded the source for macput and compiled it. 4) Dowloaded several interesting files from net.sources.mac, converted them with XBIN and am now ready to download them to my Mac. Here's the catch. As I understand the process macput running on the VAX is used in combination with MacTerminal on the Mac to do this transfer. My copy of MacTerminal, which was purchased only a month or so ago, doesn't seem to have a valid receive file mode. The menu option is there under the FILE menu, but it is always a grey "non-valid" choice. This brings up the following questions: - is there more than one program called MacTerminal or more than one version ? - is this really a "yet to be implemented feature" of MacTerminal ? - am I just not doing the right thing to get Receive File to become a valid choice ? - is there some magic patch to MacTerminal I don't know about ? Answers to the above questions will be greatly appreciated. There appears to be some really good software on the net and I can't wait to get to it. In return for this help, I would be glad to post reviews of the software I have been using lately. This includes Smoothtalker (text-to-speech converter done totally in software), MacProject (great!), Filevision and DB Master. If your interested let me know and I will reply to the net. I also saw a demonstration of ExperLisp at an AI conference the other day - it looks very good (and fast!).
