I've been frustrated in producing French language documents (and even English documents with words like "vis-a-vis") because I can see the diacritical marks I need with Keycaps, and there's a cedilla, but I couldn't figure out how to get them superimposed. The way to do it is by hitting option, then the diacritical, then the character. Thus to produce "a" with a grave accent, type: Option with `, then "a".
