One of the major drawbacks of the "user-friendliness" of the Mac is the lack of many relatively simple Unix-like features, such as: grep, diff, ls, cp, more,
etc. Over the past few months several desk accessories have been posted
(Extras, Read), which perform some of these Unix-like operations.
 

How about writing a desk accessory that combines (in a rudimentary way, nothing
fancy) these different functions? Something like Extras - but then maybe in a
simpler fashion -, implementing the following functions: grep, diff, ls, cp,
more, mv, rm. After selecting this desk accessory, a menu containing the
different commands I mentioned appears (Search, Compare, Diskinfo, Copy, Read,
Rename, Delete). Not too many graphics in order to keep the code simple, just
a minimal implementation....
  
Am I proposing something outrageous? Is anybody working on it already or
willing to (I can't!)? What other (realistic) options/functions should be
included?
