The Village Vanguard Sessions are generally considered to be a jazz classic since LaFaro and Evans had an uncommon intuitive repoire that comes out on the record. LaFaro was killed in a car crash shortly after these sessions, along with Chris Powell, Bud Powell's brother. I am not familiar with any work other than with Bill Evans. Since you are not familiar with Evans you should definately check him out, as he is one of the top jazz pianists of the century. Buy any of his records.
