Can someone out there give a brief summary of the computer &
electronics industry in India?  I know that the Indian government
operates what used to be an IBM subsidiary, but are there any
other computer manufacturers there?

Also, I have heard that the new PM wanted to construct a network
of computer sites throughout India, to be used both by the government
and local colleges.  Does anyone know anything about this project?

And lastly, are there national organizations in India analogous to
the IEEE and ACM here that one could get in contact with to learn
more about this industry there?
