I was wondering what sort of an engagement gift would be appropriate. The girl in question has a Punjabi father and a Bengalee mother, and is not a Brahmin, but is Hindu. I am afraid to take a ring, as I might get the size wrong, but was wondering whether either another gift including a diamond would be appropriate, or something else? Do Hindus have any special preferences? Since we intend to have a Hindu wedding, I'd like to follow the appropriate custom if its practical. Joe Pistritto
