My first real pet was a Guinea Pig and I have special affection for the little critters. I think they are a great pet, especially for kids if you can't get then a dog or cat. They need a fairly good size cage though. They do poop a lot and their food and water must be kept clean. The care for rabbits and Guineas is very similar. A water bottle is the best idea so that they wont spill it and it wont get dirty. Mine was kept inside but I guess you could keep them outside depending on the weather. They need to be protected from other animals however. Any pet store will have a book on Guinea Pigs. My first Guinea was named Brownie and he lived for about 4 years or so. We even used to take him on trips in the car.....don't let them get loose around bushes though 'cuz they can run!! karen
