Some people responded that the macro would be good for close ups, but inferior to a normal lens for longer distances. Well, I was thumbing through some Nikon Handbook on Lenses and I looked up the 55mm MicroNikkor. What I found was somewhat interesting. The book claimed that while originally the lens was designed primarily for close up work, it also turns out that the lens produces the sharpest image (highest resolution) of any Nikkor lens, "surpassing the quality of any film emulsion." That book looked pretty interesting. Next time, I hope I have the $$ to buy it.
