   Since this is of general interest (*right?*), the term "bread and circuses"
refers to a form of social control practiced by the ancient Romans - namely,
keep the people satisfied with bread (food) and circuses (entertainment) and
they won't give the government any trouble.  Sort of like what the republicans
are doing with the meager tax-cuts given to us middle-class sorts ... :-)
