The following entry is taken from my csh .login file under 4.2bsd:

	setenv TERMCAP ~/termcap

Its effect is to redirect /etc/termcap inquiries to a file named
"termcap" in my home directory.  That file contains all the (perhaps
modified) termcap entries I use.  Be aware that this technique requires
that ALL entries you intend to use be in the file in your account.
