Try looking at PROF(1) in the:

	V7
	4.1BSD
	4.2BSD
	System III
	System V, Release 1
	System V, Release 2

manuals.  Then look at GPROF(1) in the 4.2BSD manual, and at PROF(5) in
the System V, Release 2 Programmer's Manual.
