Awk(1) and spawk(1) have been modified to make it possible to have an
effectively-unlimited number of append-mode files `open' simultaneously.
Awk will now re-use append-mode file descriptors if it runs out of
descriptors.  There is an obvious performance penalty here, especially
since no attempt is made to be intelligent in choosing which descriptor
to re-use.
